Flood disaster in Indonesia: 908 dead, 410 missing
Indonesia’s disaster management agency announced that the death toll from devastating floods and landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains has reached 908 dead and 410 missing.
The Aceh Tamyang region in northern Sumatra island was the worst hit, with infrastructure almost destroyed and dozens of villages completely buried under mudslides.
According to authorities, more than 260,000 people have been displaced, and the most urgent needs of the people now are safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and temporary shelter.
International relief teams are being dispatched to the region and the Indonesian government has declared a national state of emergency.
