Mujahid: Trade routes with Pakistan will remain closed until receiving strong assurances from Islamabad
Maulvi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said on Thursday that trade and transit routes with Pakistan would be reopened only if Islamabad gave “strong assurance” that these routes would not become tools of political pressure, illegal use or harassment of citizens in the future, and that the rights and rights of both countries would be fully protected.
Mr. Mujahid emphasized in a press release: “Pakistan’s unilateral closure of transit routes is illegal and has become a tool of political and economic pressure that has caused serious harm to the people of both countries.”
He added that Afghanistan meets its trade needs from multiple countries and is not completely dependent on Pakistani routes.
This official position of Kabul is being announced at a time when Pakistan has closed all major transit ports with Afghanistan for nearly two months and has only recently allowed limited passage of UN humanitarian aid.
