Global arms industry breaks record, revenue of 100 arms giants reaches $679 billion

The global arms industry reached a new peak in 2024, recording the highest revenue level in its history.

According to a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the world’s top 100 arms producing companies increased their total revenue from the sale of arms and military services by 5.9 percent compared to the previous year, reaching a staggering $679 billion.

The report, released yesterday, shows unprecedented acceleration in the global arms market, which SIPRI sees as a direct result of escalating geopolitical tensions.

The ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, along with increased defense spending in various countries, have been the main drivers of this impressive growth.

For example, many of these companies have expanded their production capacities, built new factories, established subsidiaries, or acquired smaller competitors to meet growing demand.

SIPRI experts warn that this trend is not only affecting the global economy but could also exacerbate a cycle of armaments in tense regions.

The report is based on companies’ financial information through the end of 2024 and covers more details on the performance of American, European, and Asian companies.
