Reuters news agency, citing informed sources, announced that Turkey will host the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in 2026, and Australia will be responsible for leading the intergovernmental negotiations at the meeting.
Türkiye and Australia have both been competing to host one of the annual UN climate summits since 2022.
The decision comes as the COP30 negotiations in Brazil have not yet officially concluded.
It is worth noting that no representatives from Afghanistan were invited to the current COP30 meeting, an issue that has been strongly criticized by the country’s National Environmental Protection Agency.
