Spanish king visits China after 18 years

King Felipe VI of Spain began his four-day official visit to China on Tuesday (November 11), 2025. This is the first visit by a Spanish monarch to Beijing in 18 years.

The visit coincides with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the “comprehensive strategic partnership” between China and Spain and is expected to significantly strengthen political, economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Analysts believe that as Madrid’s relations with Washington have soured due to trade and political disputes, Spain is seeking to deepen its ties with Beijing, the world’s second-largest economic power.

The Spanish King’s itinerary will include a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and participation in an official ceremony marking the anniversary of bilateral relations.
