Nigerìa rejects Trump’s claim about killing of Christians
In an official statement, the Nigerian government called Donald Trump’s statements about the organized killing of Christians in the country “baseless, false and distorted” and emphasized that the Nigerian constitution guarantees religious freedom to all citizens.
A spokesman for the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “The accusation of genocide or organized killings against Christians is untrue.”
The Nigerian government protects all its citizens, regardless of religion, and combats extremism in all its forms.
The Nigerian government also rejected Trump’s narrative, stating that the recent clashes are mostly ethnic and local in nature, and that the victims include followers of both Islam and Christianity.
The statement was issued in response to Trump’s recent threats, which called for a halt to US aid and even military intervention to confront what he called “Islamic terrorists.”
The Nigerian government has so far refused to state its position on the possibility of cutting off US aid.
