Saudi Arabia welcomes ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan

The Saudi Foreign Ministry on Sunday welcomed the signing of an immediate ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the establishment of mechanisms to strengthen lasting peace and stability between the two countries.

The ministry said in a statement that Saudi Arabia is committed to ensuring security that will lead to stability and prosperity for the brotherly people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The statement also expresses appreciation for the mediating role of Qatar and Türkiye, stating that Saudi Arabia hopes this positive step will lead to an end to tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.

The talks were led by defense ministers Khalid Asif of Pakistan and Mullah Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid of Afghanistan and include follow-up meetings to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire.

Saudi Arabia, which recently signed a defense pact with Pakistan, described the ceasefire as a vital step for regional peace and stability in South Asia.
