From sea ladybugs to whale rescue, winners of the 2025 Ocean Photography Contest announced
The winners of the 2025 Ocean Photographer of the Year competition have been announced, with Indonesian photographer Yuri Ivanov taking home the top prize for his unique and vivid image of two sea ladybugs (amphipods of the Cyproideidae family).
This image, which shows two tiny sea creatures, just 3 millimeters long, resting on a piece of coral off the coast of Bali, Indonesia, was selected from more than 15,000 submissions from around the world.
Ivanov, who has made more than 15,000 dives and is a specialist in macro photography, described the achievement as a “tremendous feeling”, saying: “This award is not just about an image, but about celebrating the fragility, diversity and inspiring power of the ocean.”
The competition, sponsored by Oceanographic magazine and luxury brand Blancpain, includes 10 categories such as Art, Wildlife, Adventure, Conservation, Human Connection, Youth, Portfolio and General.
