Uzbek President: Global security is not possible without resolving the Afghan issue

In his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that global and regional security and sustainable development are not possible without addressing the issue of Afghanistan.

Mirziyoyev emphasized that supporting the aspirations of the Afghan people to achieve a peaceful and stable life requires joint efforts from the international community.

He added that preventing Afghanistan’s isolation was of vital importance and that Uzbekistan planned to implement major economic and infrastructure projects in the country.

“We intend to implement large economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan,” the Uzbek president suggested.

“We also propose that a special resolution be adopted at the United Nations for the development of transport and energy corridors of international importance through the territory of Afghanistan.”

At the same meeting, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon also said in his speech: “Tajikistan also supports peace, stability, comprehensive security, and socio-economic development in neighboring Afghanistan.”
