University of Utah police report shooting at event attended by Charlie Kirk, conservative political activist and founder of student group Turning Point USA
Kirk, who was known as a political commentator and a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, lost his life in the incident.
Charlie Kirk was an influential figure among conservative American youth, with over 5.2 million followers on the X social network and 7.3 million on TikTok.
In response to this incident, Donald Trump wrote on his personal page, “The great and even legendary Charlie Kirk has passed away; he understood the hearts and souls of the younger generation better than anyone else and was loved and admired by all.”
By order of Trump, flags at the White House and federal buildings will be flown at half-staff until Sunday.
University of Utah officials and US police are investigating the details of the shooting, and no further information has been released about the motive or cause of the incident.
