The possibility of Putin and Zelensky meeting in Istanbul has increased
Turkish Vice President Judith Yilmaz has announced the possibility of hosting a bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the Russian TASS news agency, Yilmaz, referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s efforts to mediate in resolving the Ukraine crisis, stated that Zelensky and Putin will probably meet in Istanbul. Why not? Erdogan is a leader who is trusted by both sides.
These statements were made while the Kremlin has not yet officially confirmed Putin’s presence at the meeting.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has emphasized that any meeting must be held with a clear agenda and full preparation of experts and ministers.
On the other hand, Zelensky has announced that he is ready to meet directly with Putin in Istanbul, but only on the condition that a ceasefire be established before negotiations.
This comes while Kiev was targeted by heavy Russian missile and drone attacks last night, killing at least 10 people and injuring 48.
