Flood alert in Jammu due to heavy rains and rising seas

According to news sources, local authorities in the Jammu region of India have issued a flood warning due to heavy and continuous rains that have led to a rapid rise in the water levels of the Tawi, Ravi, Chenab and Basant rivers.

The Tawi River in Odhampur district has crossed the danger mark of 20 feet and is also flowing at the warning level in Jammu city.

These rains, which began on Monday, have been accompanied by landslides and the destruction of infrastructure, including bridges, roads, and power lines.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next 24-48 hours and has issued a red alert for Kathua, Samba, Dhampur, Ramban, Doda, Keshva and Rajouri districts.

So far, at least 30 people have been reported killed in a landslide near the Vishnu Devi shrine in Katra and nine in rain-related incidents across Jammu.
