Mexico protests US military deployment in the Caribbean
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reacted to the deployment of US military ships in Caribbean waters, rejecting any “interventionism” and emphasizing that her government supports the right of nations to self-determination.
The comments came after a CNN report said the United States had deployed more than 4,000 Marines and naval vessels to waters around Latin America and the Caribbean as part of President Donald Trump’s plans to crack down on drug cartels.
According to two US defense officials, this action is a show of military power that gives the Trump administration multiple options for action against drug cartels.
“We are acting in cooperation and coordination, but any invasion or interference in Mexican territory is completely ruled out,” Sheinbaum said in his press conference.
He also emphasized the rejection of the presence of US military forces on Mexican soil and called for respect for the country’s national sovereignty.
