Constructive meeting between Putin and Trump is a step towards resolving the Ukraine crisis
At a joint news conference, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump described both sides of the talks as “useful” and “constructive.”
Trump announced that significant progress had been made in the talks, although some issues remained unresolved.
He emphasized that the final agreement required the consent of all parties and that the current negotiations had not yet reached the stage of “formal agreement.”
Putin also spoke of his country’s determination to resolve the Ukraine issue, referring to the tense relations between Russia and the United States, which he said have reached their lowest level since the Cold War.
He called the Ukrainian nation “brotherly” and emphasized the need to address the root causes of the crisis and address Russia’s security concerns.
Putin also claimed that if Trump had been US president, the war in Ukraine would never have happened.
During this meeting, Trump once again called the claim of Russian interference in the 2016 US election “fake” and announced that he would soon contact NATO and other relevant parties.
The joint press conference between the two leaders ended without answering reporters’ questions.
