Families of Israeli prisoners threaten nationwide strike to pressure Netanyahu’s cabinet
Families of Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip have threatened to hold a nationwide strike on August 17, 2025, in an attempt to pressure Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet to reach a prisoner exchange agreement with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
This strike is intended to paralyze the Israeli economy by closing key companies and economic centers.
According to the Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom, the measure will include the closure of critical facilities and large companies.
The families of the prisoners have called on the Netanyahu government to end the war in Gaza and reach a comprehensive agreement with Hamas.
They have warned that they will intensify the protests if their demands are ignored, as the continuation of the current situation could lead to further instability in the region.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid supported the move, calling it “justified.”
