Devastating floods in India’s Daraali leave 4 dead, 100 missing

Heavy and sudden rains on Tuesday (5 August) led to flooding and landslides in the village of Darali, in the Uttar Kashi district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, causing heavy damage.

The incident, which occurred following a supervolcano phenomenon in the Himalayan highlands, destroyed homes, hotels, and pilgrimage routes and cut off road connections in the region.

According to Indian officials, at least four people have died in the floods so far and about 100 people are missing.

Aryan Yadavvanshi, commander of the Uttarakhand Rapid Response Force, announced that the height of the mudslides in some areas had reached 15 meters and some buildings were completely buried under the debris.

The Indian army has so far managed to rescue 20 people by sending 150 military personnel to the region.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the need to provide immediate assistance to the flood-affected areas.

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of continued rainfall in the coming days.
