Ceasefire between Druze and Syrian government in Sweida

After four days of bloody fighting in Sweida province, the Druze minority and Syrian interim government forces reached a ceasefire agreement.

Based on this agreement, Syrian troops withdrew from the Sweida region, where the majority of the population is Druze.

Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced in a video message that protecting the Druze minority and ensuring their rights is the government’s top priority.

He also stated in response to the recent Israeli airstrikes on Damascus that although he is not afraid of war, he prioritizes the interests of the Syrian people and preventing destruction.

The clashes, which began on Sunday, July 13, with the kidnapping of a Druze businessman, left more than 250 dead and intensified with Israeli military intervention to “support the Druze.”

With the mediation of the United States and Arab countries, a new ceasefire came into effect on Wednesday evening, and the Syrian army began its withdrawal.
