500 tons of children’s food burned after the dissolution of the USAID
Following US President Donald Trump’s decision to dissolve the US Agency for International Development (USAID), about 500 tons of energy biscuits intended to feed 27,000 malnourished children in Afghanistan and Pakistan will soon be burned in a warehouse in Dubai due to expiration.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Management Michael Rigas announced on Wednesday in response to a question from lawmakers that the food, which was supposed to be used as emergency aid for hungry children, expired this month.
He considered this situation a direct result of the dissolution of the Office for Global Development.
According to reports, burning this food would cost upwards of $100,000.
The move has drawn widespread criticism and concerns about its impact on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
