Bloody clashes in Sweida, Syria, 37 dead and a wave of displacement in the region

Fierce clashes between Druze military groups and Bedouin tribes in the Sweida province, located in southern Syria, have left at least 37 people dead and 100 injured.

Local sources reported to Al-Mayadeen Network that the clashes are continuing around Al-Thala Airport and near the bridge of the village of Hazm in northern Sweida.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian interim government has sent large reinforcements to the area to control the situation.

At the same time, the Khalkhaleh region is witnessing a large wave of displacement towards the city of Sweida as residents are concerned about the approaching fighting in the area.

The Syrian interim government’s Ministry of Interior also confirmed heavy casualties, reporting 30 people killed and 100 injured, and announced that security forces would begin direct intervention in Sweida to stop the clashes and resolve the conflict.

These clashes, which intensified after the kidnapping of a Druze businessman on the Sweida-Damascus road, have exacerbated ethnic-religious tensions in the region.
