The Minister of Defense of Spain said it is impossible to allocate 5% of the GDP to the military budget
Margarita Robles, the Minister of Defense of Spain, considered the request of the United States to allocate 5% of the gross domestic product of NATO member countries to defense costs completely impossible.
On Friday 6th of Cancer, he stated in the Defense Commission of the Spanish Senate that the country’s defense industry currently does not have the capacity to absorb such funds.
This request has been made by the US that NATO members allocate 5% of their gross domestic product to military affairs by 2035.
This position of Spain shows the challenges in realizing the financial goals of NATO among the member countries.
