The Donald Trump administration has called on governments around the world to refrain from participating in a United Nations meeting scheduled to be held next week to discuss a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
The message, sent to countries on Tuesday, warned that countries that take action against Israel after the meeting would be viewed as opposed to US foreign policy interests, according to a document obtained by Reuters.
The purpose of this meeting is to outline a framework for establishing a Palestinian state while maintaining Israeli security.
The Trump administration’s recent stance contrasts with the diplomatic efforts of two close US allies, France and Saudi Arabia, which are co-hosting the summit in New York next week.
