China has launched an ambitious new project in the style of Jules Verne’s stories, planning to drill deep into the sea to reach the Earth’s crust, and this drilling will go to a point where no drill has been able to reach before.
As part of the Chinese deep-ocean drilling program, they have prepared a special drilling vessel called the Meng Xiang for a multi-year effort to penetrate the Earth’s crust.
The Mengxiang, the first all-Chinese deep-sea drilling vessel launched, is expected to begin drilling operations in the South China Sea later this year.
According to statistics, this drilling operation will likely continue until 2035.
