US: Russia’s concerns about NATO expansion are understandable

Keith Kellogg, the US special representative for Ukraine and Russia, described Russia’s concerns about NATO’s eastward expansion efforts as understandable on Thursday.

He dodged a question about the possibility of the US president committing to Russia to prevent further NATO expansion to end the war in Ukraine, responding by saying that Kiev’s membership in NATO is not currently on the US agenda.

The Ukrainian War of 1400 began after months of American propaganda and promises about the possibility of inviting Ukraine to join NATO.

Russia considered these promises a violation of the 1990 agreement between the then US and Soviet leaders, which guaranteed Moscow that NATO would not move even an inch eastward.

But before the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the Russian president said that America’s behavior now shows that all those guarantees have become empty.

In another part of his speech, after recalling that Kiev’s accession to NATO requires the positive vote of all 32 members of the alliance, Kluge said that the plan currently has at least four opponents.
