Trump accuses South Africa at the White House
“The US President, during his meeting with the South African President, claimed that a genocide was taking place in South Africa.”
US President Donald Trump welcomed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to the White House on Wednesday evening (21th of May).
During his meeting with Trump, Ramaphosa also stated that the purpose of his trip to the United States was to transform trade between the two countries and develop this trade relationship.
“There are a lot of difficult things happening in South Africa, and we’ll talk about that today; there’s a genocide going on in that country,” Trump said in response to a question at the White House.
The US President also added: “I am hearing very good reports about Rwanda and Congo. I have always heard numerous reports about beheadings and killings, and we are talking with them about trade agreements and valuable minerals.”
This claim was met with a reaction from Ramaphosa. The South African president said: “There are a number of crimes taking place in South Africa; the people killed are not all white and many are black.”
