American Cardinal Robert Francis Provost was elected as the new Pope
69-year-old Cardinal Robert Provost from America, who spent most of his career as a missionary in Peru, was elected as the 267th Pope.
He chose the name of Pope Leo XIV.
Robert Provost was elected as the first American Pope in history.
Meanwhile, CBS News reported that US President Donald Trump, while congratulating Francis Provost on his election as the new pope, said that it is a great honor to know that he is the first American pope.
The American president further announced that he is looking forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV.
