US sanctions head and top prosecutor of International Criminal Court

The United States has sanctioned Tomoko Akane, the President of the International Criminal Court, and Abdullahi Siya, the Chief Prosecutor of the institution.

American officials have said that this action was taken to protect American citizens and interests.

These sanctions come as Abdullah Siya is investigating allegations of Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court and has consistently opposed the institution’s jurisdiction to handle cases involving American citizens.
