At least 32 miners have died and 10 others are trapped underground following an explosion in a coal mine on the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
According to the Associated Press, local authorities have stated that the explosion was likely caused by a buildup of methane gas inside the mine. Rescue workers have so far pulled the bodies of 32 victims from the mine.
The Balochistan Disaster Management Authority has announced that search and rescue operations are continuing. Officials have warned that the number of victims is likely to increase due to the severe drop in oxygen levels after the explosion.
