The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has announced in its new report that restrictions on women’s rights in Afghanistan continued between April and June 2026.
Based on this report, cases of arrests of women, restrictions on education and media activities, arrests of journalists, execution of punitive punishments, and restrictions on some religious ceremonies have been documented.
UNAMA also pointed to the publication of the “Couple Separation Code”, attacks on Shiite civilians in Herat, protests related to the eradication of poppy cultivation in Badakhshan, and cases of the arrest and killing of a number of former Afghan officials and security forces.
This organization has called on the authorities of the Islamic Emirate to adhere to Afghanistan’s human rights obligations. The Islamic Emirate has not yet officially responded to the details of this report.
