5.5 magnitude earthquake in Peru kills at least 6
Peruvian authorities announced that at least six people have died, more than 30 have been injured and about 300 have been displaced after a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Andes mountain region.
The earthquake struck Saturday evening and caused extensive damage to buildings, including the historic Santiago de Leon Church, a Peruvian national heritage site, according to the Associated Press.
Local authorities have stated that the number of missing people is still unknown and that the use of substandard construction materials has increased the number of casualties and damage.
