Germany considers deporting Afghans without criminal records

The German newspaper “Taz” has reported that the German government is planning to deport a number of Afghans without a criminal record in the future, in addition to Afghan citizens with a criminal record.

According to this report, at least five Afghan citizens who have neither criminal convictions nor are considered dangerous by security agencies are being held in special deportation detention centers in Germany.

The newspaper wrote that Germany had stopped the deportation process of Afghan citizens after 2021, but resumed it in the fall of 2024; initially, the process only included people with convictions or security threats.

The report added that the current German government has spoken in its coalition agreement about expanding the policy of deporting Afghans, and details of the number of people awaiting deportation and cooperation with Afghan authorities have not yet been announced.
