Amnesty International calls for immediate release of Ali Wazir from Pakistani prisons

Amnesty International has announced that Ali, a former minister and member of the Pakistani House of Representatives, has been arrested on “fabricated” charges and should be released as soon as possible.

According to the organization’s report, Ali Wazir was arrested on March 16 in Hyderabad, Pakistan, on terrorism-related charges, although he had been released earlier that day after receiving bail from the Sindh Supreme Court in another case.

Amnesty International added that after this incident, two new cases were registered against him, and he has faced repeated arrests and dozens of cases since 2020.

The report states that Ali Wazir’s activities focused on issues such as extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and discrimination against the Pashtun ethnic minority, and the organization called the actions against him “arbitrary and unlawful.”
