During US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House, bin Salman publicly expressed for the first time his implicit agreement with the “Abraham Accords” normalizing relations between Arab countries and Israel.
In a part of the face-to-face conversation captured by cameras, Trump said to bin Salman: “I think you feel very good about the Abraham Accords?” The Saudi crown prince replied with a smile, “Yes, we want peace for the Israelis and the Palestinians.”
These statements, which are considered bin Salman’s first indirect confirmation of the process of normalizing relations with the Israeli regime, came at a time when Riyadh had so far refused to officially join the Abraham Accords.
White House sources described the conversation as a sign of Saudi Arabia’s readiness for further steps towards normalizing relations with Israel within the framework of broader defense and economic agreements with the United States.
