Foreign women replace Afghan female staff at UNHCR Kabul

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has hired foreign female staff at its cash aid distribution center in Kabul following the Islamic Emirate’s restrictions on Afghan women’s work.

This temporary measure was taken to resume interviews and registration of returnees, especially women and children, who make up more than half of the returnees.

According to news sources, 10 days ago, the activities of all cash aid distribution centers across the country were suspended due to the inability to conduct interviews without the presence of female employees.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) described the replacement as an exceptional and temporary measure to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, as many women and children have been waiting for days for aid.

The organization emphasized that the situation is not stable and that talks with Islamic Emirate officials are continuing for the return of Afghan female employees
