First round of Doha talks for Gaza ceasefire ends without result
Reuters news agency reported, citing unnamed Palestinian officials, that the first round of ceasefire talks in Doha failed due to the Israeli delegation’s lack of real authority.
These sources stated that the Israeli delegation did not have sufficient authority to conclude an agreement, and that the goal of the negotiations was to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and an exchange of prisoners.
However, some foreign media outlets, citing informed Israeli sources, have reported rapid progress in the negotiations and raised the possibility of a ceasefire agreement being finalized within the next 24 hours.
This is while the continuous attacks by the Israeli army on the Gaza Strip since yesterday morning have resulted in the martyrdom of more than 80 Palestinians.
