Zelensky is ready to meet with Putin in Istanbul, but a ceasefire must be established
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has announced that he is ready for direct talks with Russia in Istanbul and hopes that these talks will lead to the end of the war.
On Sunday, May 11, Zelensky wrote in his telegram that he is waiting for a complete ceasefire from Monday, May 12, and added that he is waiting to meet Vladimir Putin in Turkey personally.
Zelensky has emphasized that this truce can pave the way for the progress of diplomacy.
These statements are made while US President Donald Trump asked Ukraine to immediately agree to Vladimir Putin’s proposal for negotiations.
These negotiations are scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 15 in Türkiye.
Previously, Zelensky had emphasized the beginning of dialogue with Moscow, subject to a 30-day ceasefire.
In a recent statement in the Kremlin, Putin also asked Kiev officials to resume direct negotiations.
