Stock markets in South Korea and Japan plunge on concerns over AI investments

Asian stock markets fell sharply on Friday, November 6, following a sell-off in technology stocks and concerns about the future of investment in the artificial intelligence sector.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the country’s stock market index fell by about 8.8 percent in early trading, and following a drop of more than 8 percent, the country’s stock exchange suspended trading for 20 minutes.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index fell more than 7 percent in morning trading, falling below the 60,000 level.

Reports indicate that concerns about the possibility of a slowdown in data center development and AI-related investments in the United States following the results of the country’s midterm elections have been the main factors weighing on technology company stocks.
