China urges US to take practical action on nuclear disarmament

In response to US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the trilateral nuclear talks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has called on Washington to practically fulfill its special responsibility in the field of nuclear disarmament.

According to Mao Ning, given the significant difference in China’s nuclear power with the United States and Russia, asking Beijing to join nuclear disarmament negotiations under the current circumstances is unfair and impractical.

China has emphasized that the United States and Russia, as holders of the world’s largest nuclear arsenals, should prioritize significant and verifiable reductions in their nuclear weapons as a first step.

Beijing has also said that it has no intention of entering an arms race and that its nuclear policy is based on the principle of no first use of nuclear weapons and maintaining nuclear capabilities at the level required for national security.
