Verbal tension between Egypt and Israel escalates over Sinai, Cairo :Israel will not stay
On the eve of the anniversary of the liberation of Sinai, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that if Egypt attacks Israel, “there will be no more Sinai.”
These statements have been met with a sharp reaction from media figures, representatives, and people close to the Egyptian government. Egyptian media figure Ahmed Moussa, in response to Smotrich’s words, said, “If Israel commits such an act, there will be no more Israelis.”
Moussa stressed that Sinai is a “red line” for Egypt, adding that Egypt will not allow the events of 1967 to be repeated.
These statements were made at a time when Egypt and Israel reached the status quo regarding the Sinai Peninsula within the framework of a peace agreement after the October 1973 war.
