Britain opens new refugee resettlement route, prioritizing Afghan women and girls
The Guardian newspaper reported that the British Home Office plans to create a new legal pathway for refugee resettlement in which Afghan women and girls, Palestinian refugees, and people with disabilities will be given priority.
Under the plan, the UK’s refugee resettlement program, which had stopped accepting new referrals since December 2024, will be reactivated. The number of admissions is initially limited and will increase if illegal immigration decreases.
Based on the report, eligible refugees will be identified by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Refugee Assistance Project, and security and criminal background checks will be conducted before acceptance.
