North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has emphasized the modernization of shipbuilding capacity and strengthening of the country’s naval power during a visit to the Nampo Shipyard.
Kim reportedly visited the factory on Monday and was briefed on the progress of a plan to modernize production lines and build a new warship.
Referring to geopolitical developments and what he called the hostile actions of the enemies, he considered North Korea’s possession of the most advanced and powerful warships an urgent need, and said that strengthening naval power is essential to defend the country, maintain national sovereignty, and deter threats.
