OCHA: Nearly 16 million people in Afghanistan face hunger crisis
Olga Cherocco, spokeswoman for the Unit Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), warned that nearly 16 million people in Afghanistan are facing critical levels of hunger, of which 3.4 million are in emergency situations.
According to him, with the arrival of winter, the number of people affected by hunger may increase to about 19 million.
Cheruko stressed the need for urgent action before winter, saying that humanitarian aid alone is not enough and that Afghanistan needs sustained investment in agriculture, employment, health services, and economic opportunity.
He also warned that restrictions on women and girls have negative consequences on the economic situation and nutrition of families in Afghanistan.
