Reports say 22 people have died after a school roof collapsed in Peshawar
Reports indicate that 21 students and a teacher have died and more than 30 others have been injured after the roof of a school collapsed in the city of Peshawar, Pakistan.
Asim Khan, an official at Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, told AFP that the condition of six of the injured is critical.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed “deep sorrow and grief” over the deaths.
Building collapses in Pakistan are a safety concern, and reports have cited failure to comply with construction standards and the use of poor-quality materials as factors in such incidents.
In June of this year, more than 10 students died after the roof of an educational center collapsed in Lahore. Similarly, in 2025, the collapse of a five-story building in the Lyari area of Karachi left 27 dead and 10 injured.
