Paris’ oldest covered food market, known as the Marché Couverte des Anges, was severely damaged by a fire this morning, and according to published reports, most of it was destroyed.
This market is located in the Le Marais district of Paris and dates back to 1615; the name “Red Children” comes from the red clothes of the orphans who lived in an institution near this market.
Paris’s central mayor, Ariel Ville, said the fire had been contained and that rescue forces had prevented it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
No further details have been released about the cause of the fire and the exact extent of the damage.
