Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a general meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club that if there is a direct attack on Russia, including the Kaliningrad region, the issue of using all weapons at the country’s disposal will be raised immediately.
Referring to rising tensions with NATO, Putin said that Russia is not afraid of the possibility of conflict with the alliance in the coming years and warned that escalating countermeasures could lead to a dangerous and irreversible point.
He also criticized statements about the possibility of war with Russia in 2029, saying that European political leaders are pushing their citizens towards confrontation with Russia. Putin emphasized that Russia does not intend to attack European countries.
Regarding Kaliningrad, the Russian president also said that Moscow’s warning about defending the region, including the possibility of using nuclear weapons, is not an act of intimidation, but a response to what he called an attempt to threaten Russia. NATO has previously rejected Russia’s nuclear statements, saying that the alliance is defensive in nature and does not threaten Kaliningrad.
Putin also said that armed conflicts unfortunately remain a part of human life and emphasized the need to observe humanitarian rules and principles during conflicts.
