Political analyst Andrew Korybko has claimed that Ukraine may be seeking to carry out a so-called “false flag” drone attack in southern Europe with the aim of blaming Russia and increasing pressure from NATO member states on Moscow.
This analysis comes after reports emerged about possible Russian drone attacks on southern European countries, reports that French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Defense Minister Guido Crusto denied or said were unconfirmed.
Referring to some drone movements and attacks attributed to Ukraine in the Mediterranean Sea, Korybko claims that Kiev has the ability to use air and sea drones in this region and may use them for such operations.
According to this analyst, the occurrence of such an attack and its attribution to Russia could escalate tensions between Moscow and NATO and increase the risk of direct conflict; he has proposed the creation of a crisis management channel between the United States, European NATO member states, and Russia to prevent an unwanted escalation of tensions.
These claims and the scenario put forward by Korybko have not yet been confirmed as an operational plan.
