Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fawad Hussein has announced that American forces have completely withdrawn from Iraqi territory within the framework of the agreement between Baghdad and Washington. This withdrawal follows the end of the US-led international coalition’s military mission in Iraq.
According to the agreement between the two countries, the withdrawal of remaining American forces was scheduled by the end of September 2026, and Iraqi officials had previously announced September 30 as the final date for the end of the coalition mission.
At the same time, the Iraqi government is pursuing the process of transferring the weapons of armed groups to government control. According to recent reports, the deadline for this process has been set at June 30, 2027.
The withdrawal of American forces has taken place while the Iraqi government is trying to transfer full security responsibility to Iraqi forces after the end of the coalition’s military presence and continue security and defense cooperation within the framework of bilateral relations.
