The Associated Press has reported that Saudi Arabia is trying to gain Egypt’s support following the intensification of attacks by Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement on the country’s shipping and oil infrastructure.
Referring to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Egypt, the media outlet said that Saudi Arabia has largely been left alone in confronting Ansar Allah forces.
According to the Associated Press, Egypt’s support will likely remain at the political level, and it is unlikely that Cairo will send its military forces to help Riyadh.
The Washington Post also wrote in a report on the decade-long war against Ansar Allah in Yemen that airstrikes by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the US, Britain, and Israel in recent years have failed to stop this movement, and instead its capabilities have increased.
The newspaper added that with Ansar Allah’s continued attacks on Saudi oil facilities and the threat to shipping in important sea lanes, new and untested options for confronting the movement have become very limited.
