Guterres calls for lifting restrictions on Afghan women working in UN offices
In a statement, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the Islamic Emirate to lift restrictions on Afghan women’s work in the organization’s offices and guarantee their right to full, equal, and meaningful participation.
Guterres said that enabling women to deliver humanitarian assistance and essential services to women and girls is essential for an effective and principled humanitarian response.
He added that these restrictions are a serious obstacle to Afghanistan’s economic development, stability, and return to the international community.
The Islamic Emirate has not yet announced a position in response to these statements by the UN Secretary-General.
