CIA Director to Visit Moscow to Meet Russian Officials
American media reported that CIA Director John Ratcliffe traveled to Moscow on Tuesday to meet and discuss with Russian officials.
Details of the meetings and the identities of the Russian officials Ratcliffe will speak with have not yet been announced; this is the first known trip by a CIA director to Moscow since former CIA director William Burns in November 2021.
The trip comes as US-Russian relations continue to be affected by the war in Ukraine and regional developments; Moscow also has close strategic ties with Iran in the military, economic, and diplomatic sectors.
The United States on Monday warned countries to reduce their trade relations with Iran or face secondary sanctions, a move that would increase economic pressure on Tehran.
Russia has previously denied any military or intelligence assistance to Iran to target US installations in the Middle East and has stated that it is ready to help resolve tensions and disputes between Tehran and Washington.
