US President Donald Trump has announced that no negotiations are underway with Iran and that no talks are planned for the future.
Trump has said that the Strait of Hormuz is open and operational, but Iran insists that this important waterway remains closed to shipping.
These statements came after the end of a temporary ceasefire between the two sides, and as hopes for an agreement dwindled, oil prices rose and stock markets fell.
A senior Iranian official also told Reuters that Iran is moving towards a “fully aggressive” military posture due to the impasse in talks.
